Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Police Department is to deter crime and apprehend criminals; maintain strong police-community relations and, to continually enhance the training and expertise of each member of the police force. The goals of the Department are to identify criminal activity, pursue and apprehend criminal offenders, and assist in the prosecution of known offenders. To maintain a proactive patrol and investigation force and thus reduce the opportunity to commit crime. To facilitate the movement of people and vehicles through analysis and commitment of selective traffic enforcement resources. To perpetuate a sound managerial environment that focuses upon Department goals and provides for career development through training, advancement and reward for exemplary performance. To instill public confidence in the agency by maintaining a high degree of professionalism, dedication and expertise in the development of police service.

Chief Edge Biography

Charles “Chuck” Edge has been Chief of Police for the city of Waxahachie since April of 2007. Prior to that, he was the Chief of Police for the city of Palestine, serving in that capacity for four years. Chuck went to Palestine after 21 years as an officer in the Baytown Police Department and his last assignment with Baytown PD was as a Field Commander with the Harris County Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force.

Chief Edge is a graduate of the 222nd session of the FBI National Academy and a graduate of the Leadership and Command College of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas.

He is commissioned as a Master Peace Officer and has an Instructor’s License through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

Chief Edge graduated cum laude with a BS in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and has an MA in Public and Private Management from the University of Houston – Clear Lake.

Chuck and wife Kathy have one grown son who resides in Galveston.
